Excerpts from Publications,
Articles and Trip Reports:

"Jamaica Biking"
"I have spent many vacations in
Jamaica. I love it because it is a large island, offers
different climates and is ethnically diverse....I was
overwhelmed by the unspoiled beauty of the rainforest as
we cruised through small, remote, unspoiled villages,
past the Blue Mountain coffee fields, and down to a
beautiful outdoor restaurant where we were served a
Cajun lunch....This is an all-day, inexpensive ($80), and
unforgettable trip..."

"It's
all Downhill"
by Brenda Fine
"There's more to a Jamaican
vacation than just sun and surf. There's even more than
reggae and waterfall climbing. Would you believe
mountain biking?.....they created Blue Mountain Biking, a
downhill, day-trip that is varied as it is exhilarating.
Early in the morning, tourists are picked up at their
hotels and driven in air-conditioned coaster buses up
Hardware Gap mountain, stopping midway for a hearty
Jamaican breakfast of banana fritters, beignets, fresh
fruits, and -of course- Blue Mountain coffee......Lunch
is in the company's open-air chalet, where thirsty
bikers scarf down frosty Red Stripe beers, fresh fruit
juice and a Cajun-Jamaican-style jambalaya. After lunch
the group continues its downhill cruise to a refreshing
mountain treat: a secluded 30-foot waterfall for a
much-needed swim..."

"On a Roll. Biking down
Jamaica's Blue Mountains"
by Ginny Turner
"The hills are alive
with wild ginger, tumbling waterfalls, and doctor birds.
And I am sailing downhill on a hot-pink bicycle past
coffee bushes and tall plumes of bamboo.....The air is
cool, compared to the beach I left this morning, and the
views are of long downward stretches of rolling hillside
covered in rampant greenery. Mist wafts around the tops
of bluish-green peaks on the other side of the valley.
Rivulets of water from the previous night's rain run
across the roadway. For a moment, the road curves both
before and behind me, and I can't see any other riders.
I am alone with the sound of my hissing tires, and I
feel as if I own the whole mountain...This is made
possible by Blue Mountain Tours Ltd. The staff
transports you, feeds you, teaches you a little, and
helps you experience Jamaica differently. .....When we
got to the chalet on the way down, we stopped again,
this time for jambalaya and ice-cold Jamaican beer. Thus
stoked, we continued riding though it was easy to stop
and take pictures at any time. And the scenery obliged.
A 100-foot waterfall tumbled into a culvert under the
road. I marveled at the big clumps of impatiens and
coleus growing wild and wondered about the families
living in the scattered farmhouses. Coffee bushes were
plentiful...Children were happy to see us, waving or
coming into the road to try to slap hands with
us...Around 3:30 p.m., after a total riding time of
about two-and-a-half hours, we arrived at a wide
waterfall plunging into a broad pool....Our driver had
the bus waiting there and offered us cups of rum punch.
Though not strenuous, the day was long and exhilarating,
and we climbed aboard wanting quiet and relaxation. The
driver turned down the reggae music, and left us with
our thoughts on the drive back."
"Travel Clips" "Jamaica -
The newest way to experience the beauty of the island's
Blue Mountains is on a downhill (i.e. 95% no-pedalling)
cycling tour. Blue Mountain Tours Ltd. picks up
travelers in Port Antonio or Ocho Rios, shuttles them to
a cool misty starting point high in the mountains and
leads them down through incredible scenery with stops
for snacks, photo ops, lunch and waterfall swimming..."
